Corinne Lathrop met Tyrell Thompson Gilb in 1945 at the University of Washington in Seattle. They married six weeks later, four days after the end of WWII. With their first born, Lesley, they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1947, where Corinne Gilb began her doctoral studies at Radcliffe-Harvard. Tyrell Gilb also studied briefly at Harvard, but, born and raised in Los Angeles, he returned to California to establish his construction company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Corinne Gilb joined him in 1949, continuing her coursework at the University of California. The couple eventually settled in Berkeley, in a house designed and built by Tyrell Gilb, and gave birth to their second daughter, Tyra.

Although her career took her to Detroit in 1968, Corinne Gilb commuted regularly to her home and family in California. In 1994, after she retired from teaching in Detroit, the family moved from Berkeley to a home in Atherton, California, in the area known as "Silicon Valley". With remnants of farming origins, including a fruit orchard, greenhouses and majestic heritage trees, this spacious property reminded Dr. Gilb of the "wide space" farms where she spent her childhood in Alberta and Eastern Washington. Dr. Gilb founded the publishing company Atherton Press in 1997, continued with her own writings, and made frequent trips to professional conferences throughout the world. After 35 years as Vice President of Research and Development at Simpson Strong-Tie Company, Tyrell Gilb retired in 1998 at age 82, and passed away in 2001. Corinne Lathrop Gilb passed away a year and a half later, on January 20, 2003.
